Instructions for Online/Asynchronous Submission of Business Forms
(This section is an online/ self directed exercise)
This Small Business Entrepreneur Course: Part 1 is offered in conjunction with our Continuing/Community Education Department for adult students and community business partners, and will complement the existing course catalog, filling a gap in our non-degree program.
The course is aimed at providing adult students interested in starting or operating a small business, the opportunity to gain fundamental knowledge and skill in the components of the industry and will encompass an overview and basic introduction to the field of business.
Course Description:
This introductory course is designed to provide a basic understanding of entrepreneurship and the challenges and necessities associated with starting and/or operating a small business.
Subject matter included in this course will delve into the basic concepts and skills essential to business ownership; planning, business types, legal requirements, financial planning, social and ethical responsibilities, and the creation a basic business plan.
Lesson Title: It is time to do the paperwork! [self paced]
Subject Area: Federal/State requirements for doing business; employment and tax mandates, required insurance, and key legal implications.
Grade/Age Level: Adult Continuing Education/Business Basics
Overview of Lesson: This section of the course is an online, self-paced module. Students will access the link to the site and complete the submission of legal forms required by the federal government and state authorities for their specific business model.
Standards: Objectives aligned with NYS Dept of Education Learning Standards for Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) and include keys ideas, performance indicators/expectations for student outcomes, and evidence of progress toward the standard.

Goals of lesson: Students will file their application for their federal employer identification number, and any additional registrations, as required by the legal mandates of their business type.
Objectives of Lesson: Students will file the required forms/applications to do business in New York State, relevant to their business model, becoming business owners.
Identify the required legal documents to form their business entity.
Legally create their business entity.

3) Step-by-step page: You have researched and vetted an appropriate business name and are anxious to make this dream a reality. Throughout this course, we have discussed at length the distinct types of business entities and you have made the decision on which type of business structure best suits your business type and end goal. The next step is to dive into the “paperwork” required for doing business in New York State- which is the focus of this online site.
At the portals applicable to your business type below, complete your business filing, following the directions on each federal/state application portal. When finished, please head over to the Self-Evaluation page and tell me about your experience.

Asynchronous Participation: Each student will review the information on the links provided for each category listed above, followed by completion of the appropriate forms for their business entity. A self-evaluation in included for those completing this lesson virtually.
